The series is good but adopts a very pejorative tone towards the U-Boot crews. It seems more like a good propaganda piece than a series that tries to reproduce the atmosphere of the German Navy at the time.

Yeah typical Netflix F tier scenario. What's to remember of this so far: "Spread women legs haha", anger issues so they will beat each other from time to time, Wrangler being the cliche of "I'm the biggest maniac ever, the Temu version of the Joker that betrays everyone, yes, but you kind of need me for random made up reasons *wink*", they'll flood all the tubes 1 to 4 and everytime shoot two torpedos even on a small ass boat when they can use the 88mm deck gun. Poor character writing, poor directing, unrealistic, poor scenario which has to tick all the boxes of the generic garbage Netflix show to satisfy the journeymen producers because there is a need for at least two dead people per episode with lots of drama because the modern audience can't live accepting the necessary boredom and length of some situations, there is a need for explosions and shit at some point. But it ends up being stale, the chocking factor doesn't work anymore when it's overused. This has nothing on the original Das Boot movie and book (by that I'm not saying it's trying to copy it, I'm comparing the quality of it all, apples to apples). It's what the modern age does worst. This show has no identity, just piggybacking on the OG movie's name. If you like this show, I'm sorry but you dislike arts and have poor tastes so I don't respect your opinion. Would you rather eat junk food or go to a high class restaurant if you could chose for free? Objectively, one is a better choice than the other. If you keep feeding yourself shit, you will end up turning into one.

I have read the book 'Das Boot', in Dutch translation, as it was written by Lothar Günther Buchheim who actually served as a propaganda officer on a U-boat. I read the over 500 pages 'in one breath' so to speak. The original film 'Das Boot' (1981) comes as close to reality as it can get and that goes for 'The Boat U-822' as well. As a Uboat history nut, it's good submarine porn. Enjoyable, but indulge me and let me nitpick. It was extremely difficult to find entire convoys of 60+ ships when you know the route ( atlantic visibility is kaput). The odds of one Uboat hunting Red Octob..I mean Von Reinhardt, is nil. Uboats were designed to blend in with the Atlantic and ride low in the water. Spotting one farther than 5000 m out would be a miracle. Still a fun show though. Don't get me started on sinking multiple corvettes that choose to not zig zag in the name of fairness.

This situtation is so fucked. US industrialists were never going to allow any old Europian power to dominate Europe, let alone the world. BUT, the crew of U 612 are a bunch of raving lunatics. If they cannot obey orders, what use are they to Germany?

Who makes the better soldier? Someone who is prepared to lie and cheet in order to win. Or someone who is prepared to minimise violence in order to win.

Great series. Although the constant questioning of the captain's orders are quite unrealistic. I mean, almost every order, no matter which captain is in command, is questioned.

Thank you for doing this for all of us who seen Das Boot in the past. I have a DVD of the movie, but to see the whole thing is wonderful. Das Boot is my favorite sub movie.

The Chief got his own back on Wrangle 🔪 🩸 Justice. It gave us all a serious insight into the life of a U-Boat crew, albeit these ones probs had a bit more on their plate than the typical crew. Much appreciated. Paradoxically, I had just finished watching a 6 part series on Australian TV SBS called WAR GAMERS. All about how an officer who was relegated to literally training the dads Army in England because he got tuberculosis came up with the idea of WAR GAMING to figure out the Nazi Atlantic wolf pack strategies. And then to top it off, it was gifted women who came up with many of those strategies. Bloody annoying Mr Churchill that the women were not recognised AT ALL for their efforts that literally saved 1000’ if not 10’s or 100’s of thousands of lives by their efforts 🥇 🎬 🎥 🪖⚔💣💥

Reached 6:50 & it's enough. Still another badplayed german crew. Das Boot von W. Petersen nach L. G. Buchheims Roman ist das einzig sehenswerte. Schlimm wenn ein Propaganda Film wie Scapa Flow von 19xx besser ist.
